On Torture

Torture, disappearances, kidnappings, rule by executive decree, the dispensing and systematic violation of human rights, parliamentary democratic powers and constitutional rule, passports required for travel inside one’s own nation, indefinite detention without trial, the suspension of habaes corpus, presumption of guilt until proven innocent, pervasive and continuous fear-mongering, warrantless searches and seizures and arrests, home invasions by police without warrant, universal surveillance, tracking and tracing programs, a cult of obedience and conformity, the suppression of freedom of speech, along with freedom of the press and freedom of assembly, demonization and intimidation of dissenting voices, censorship, mass propaganda and summary extrajudicial executions, are the hallmarks of fascism. And across the West, we now have them all.

Torture is in violation of international law, the Geneva Convention, virtually every constitution, and the UN Charter on Human Rights, under any and all circumstances, and is utterly prohibited by all moral and ethical imperatives. It is also proven not to work, in terms of gaining actionable information – though that is incidental to the law and to all moral imperatives – because people being tortured will say anything to make the torture stop. Further, if the Nuremberg Trials were held today, every military, paramilitary, security or “intelligence” personnel, and every politician involved in wars of aggression or torture, would be hung for war crimes and crimes against humanity. That includes most British and Canadian Prime Ministers of recent decades, including the present servants of the US Deep State and Davos, and every US President since WWII.

These are the ugly facts. Worse yet, 50% of Americans support torture, because they have been brainwashed by Hollywood and the corporate media. These are dark times, and the clear and indisputable trend is toward fascism. And it is an understatement to even call it a trend. It is here.

Everyone with a trace of integrity, intelligence, or moral courage remaining in them, should state their clear and firm opposition to torture, and to fascism and police state powers, clearly and publicly, and share this everywhere.

“You have to stand up for something, and if you can’t stand up against torture, what can you stand up for?” – Former CIA Intelligence Officer Ray McGovern

As the Ivy league studies have confirmed, in a case of science confirming the obvious, the US is no longer a democracy, but is now an oligarchy. And even that is euphemistic. It is now a corporate fascist vassal power of the ruling oligarchy of international banking and business elites, based in Davos, Basel, Wall Street and the City of London. The same is true across the Western world, and in most nations the world over.

Do not take this lying down. Find your spine and stand for something. Maybe freedom, democracy, constitutional rule and human rights are worth preserving. If you don’t think so, reflect on Aushwitz. If you think such terrors can’t happen again, I’d say you are plainly delusional, frankly. Stand up now.

Again, I would urge people to read two books above all:

Vandana Shiva’s Oneness vs The 1%, and my own: The People vs The Elite.

And read them now. Order them from the library or online today.
