Electric awesomeness. Harley Livewire.

LiveWire Electric Drive Motorcycle – Harley-Davidson USA

It’s beautiful, it’s fast, it’s a Harley – and it’s electric.

Instant torque from an electric motor means great acceleration. An electric motorcycle with solar panels in your yard to charge it, is also far less expensive to drive and much easier on the planet than driving a truck, car, minivan or SUV – OR EVEN A PRIUS OR CHEVY VOLT!

It’s also $30,000 USD. Worth it, but expensive. Better, maybe, is a used Zero electric motorcycle for $10,000. Better still is a new all-terrain, fat tire, snow-going electric mountain bike, with front and rear cargo racks and panniers, 7-8 hour driving range, and top speed of 40mph, for $1,500.

Choose your own transportation. But think about the planet too, and your wallet. $40-100 to fill the tank, or pennies to drive? Electric cars, trucks, e-bikes and motorcycles are here, and although they are not zero impact vehicles, they are an improvement. Your choice. Be mindful, I’d say. Please.

And yes, I drive an electric Chevy Volt, which gets an equivalent of 152 mpg, and drive that seldom. I ride my mountain bike, or Trillium e-bike, or walk, mainly. I sold my Harley Sportster, sadly, because insurance was killing me…..

But a Harley electric Livewire, ya, that would be balls to the wall fun!

I would miss the glorious Harley rumble, yes. But on the other hand, the Livewire comes with its own kick-ass sound track….

Crank it.

The Volt remains the best car on the planet at present, if we are serious about the environment, and if affordability and range also matter, as they do for most people. You can now get a used Volt for $8,000 USD or $12,000 CDN, with 600 km range, and save $1,000-$3,000 a year on gas, depending on how much you drive. But there are other reasonably good options for fuel efficient vehicles on the market as well.
