Waiting for a saviour
Well….it’s up to God.
(Spoken in the tones of Eeyore.)
And this is said, under-breath, by most, at all times, no matter their religious beliefs.
How disgusting. How pathetic. How virulent – and diabolical. But it can only be even slightly understood if we take a moment to reflect on it. A few will. Bless them. And blessed be the pathologically delusional as well – their hell will be but a temporary hell of their own making, and they will, sooner or later, rise above it.
This pathological despair – what is it from? More importantly, how is it overcome? What has possessed the minds of man that they think they can do nothing? What evil daemon, to paraphrase Descartes, holds sway over their minds?
You are not powerless, I want to scream to them. But, they are deaf. I could scream at rocks with more effect.
And again, the basic feeling, unspoken, of the religious, and even the unreligious, though they know it not, is that some higher power, or some great hero or messiah figure, will ride in on a white stallion, so to speak, and will come in to correct and remedy it all. They are all waiting, like cattle at the slaughter house, for a saviour.
“We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men”
– T.S. Elliot
“Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer
Things fall apart…
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity”
– W.B. Yeats
“Because you are neither hot nor cold, but only luke warm,
I spit you out of my mouth.”
– St. John of Patmos
For those who are theistic, we can say, God helps those who help themselves. Get this, and do not pass it over. It is an important point. There will be help. But do not be complacent, nonetheless. It is not in your interest, nor your benefit, to be complacent. There will be aid: that does not mean that you should spend your blessed time – and all time is blessed time – on the couch or lazing in the bath; or worse, spend your precious time consumed by this all-pervasive, incessant, idle busyness, which plagues the world and imprisons the minds of nearly all men and women today.
For those who are not theistic, we can say – do not be an idiot: you can see the writing on the wall – get your warrior on, now. Do you really want to sleepwalk into disaster? I guess many do. To them, there is nothing to say, but, I bid you well.
You do not ask God to wash your dishes. Why should you ask God to clean up after your mess ecologically, politically, sociologically, or in any other way? Are we spiritual, truly, or are we simply children?
Whether you are spiritual or not, there can be no excuse for passivity – clearly. You are your brother’s keeper, whether you like it or not. No man is an island. An injury to one, is an injury to all. If we do not stand together now, we will not stand at all. These are the simple facts. Bear with them, hold up in front of them, and forebear, and drive ahead with that knowledge; or will yourself into an early grave.
We have come to a breaking point. It is now, or it is never. Get this, or watch your world die. There is no pleasant, pleasing, happy diversion from this. This is the reality we face. We have relayed the details many times. Those who still do not hear, are simply deaf.
What more can be said?
Those who have ears, let them hear. Those who have eyes, let them see.
Get your warrior on.
